Greece has recorded a number of cases of Covid-19 well below that of most European countries, but in recent days it has been experiencing a gradual increase in infections.
For this reason, the Greek Prime Minister announced new measures to combat the epidemic in Greece closure, as of Tuesday, of restaurants, bars, cafes, cinemas, museums and gyms in various regions of the country, including the capital Athens.
The curfew – between midnight and 5 am -, which was already in effect in the most affected areas, is extended to the whole country.
“These new rules are focused on two verifiable sources of virus transmission: entertainment and movement of people, “said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Shops, industry and schools will remain open as will other services like hotels and hairdressers.
Like many other European countries, Greece has also tried to avoid, at all costs, a global standstill like the one that happened in the beginning of the pandemic.
This Friday Greece recorded a peak of new cases. There were another 1690 and five deaths.
