The Mexican Commission for Aid to Refugees (COMAR) published a notice related to the folio numbers that are published weekly.
COMAR is responsible for the process of determining refugee status and complementary protection, as well as providing institutional assistance. This is the message they have spread on social networks.
“We are adjusting processes for better service, now the folio numbers are published weekly, keep an eye on your number and go to the COMAR Registration Center.”
According to information offered, next week the entire range of numbers distributed will be attended to, on the date and time indicated:
In other statements published on its official channels, the Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance reiterates that it is the institution of the Mexican government that is responsible for receiving, analyzing and deciding on applications for recognition of refugee status in Mexico.
In this sense, they warn that they do not provide immigration regularization or transit documents. “The Certificate of Admission to the COMAR process is not a document for free transit through Mexico, so you must remain in the state where you begin your application to follow up on your process until its resolution.”
REFUGE IN MEXICO: LA COMAR
Who is considered a refugee? The Law on Refugees, Complementary Protection and Political Asylum says that a refugee:
- You have fled your country because your life, safety, or freedom has been threatened by widespread violence, foreign aggression, internal conflict, or massive violation of human rights.
- She has a well-founded fear of being persecuted for her race, religion, nationality, gender, membership in a certain social group or political opinions.
- You are at risk or could experience harassment, extortion or violence.
“If your life or safety is in danger if you return to your country of origin, and you wish to stay in Mexico, you can request recognition of refugee status, COMAR will analyze your case and give you a resolution,” they communicate.
You should know that to start your application you have to go to any of the COMAR offices and where there is no official presence of the commission, you can appear at the offices of the National Migration Institute.
