Riyadh –
A Saudi prince which has been coma for about 15 years finally gave a speck of hope to his family this week. He began to move his hands.
Reported The New Arab, Friday (23/10/2020) Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid Al-Saud moved his hand in response to someone who was talking beside his bed. This scene appears in a video that went viral on social media.
“Hello, hi,” said the man to the prince, prompting him to lift two fingers. “Let me see, higher, higher!” he said.
Prince Al-Waleed has been on a ventilator since 2005 after suffering a brain hemorrhage in a car accident while studying at a military college.
Since then Prince Al-Waleed has been in a coma. In 2015, the doctor who treated him decided to remove his life support machine. However, his father, Prince Khalid bin Talal Al Saud and his mother, Princess Mona Riad El Solh – who is the daughter of the Lebanese leader – rejected this.
They did not want to give up and insisted on monitoring his condition in the hope that one day Prince Al-Waleed would come to his senses.
Prince Al-Waleed’s father, Prince Khalid, was among those detained for 11 months for criticizing the crackdown on the royal elite. In 2017, dozens of princes including Khalid, officials and typists were arrested at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Riyadh. Prince Khalid was also arrested for a short time in 2018.
