Column: Pork price steadily up | Pigbusiness.nl

The price of pigs will continue to rise in the coming week. All signals are green for a further double-digit increase. Slaughterhouses have been able to hold back the increase for a long time, but now there is no stopping it. Last week, the Dutch slaughterhouses increased by 11 to 15 cents. Van Rooi apparently wants to slaughter more and came up with the plus 15 cents.

We gaan in ieder geval met dubbele cijfers naar boven

As said before, the slaughterhouses have finished leaning back and they now have to get to work to get the pigs. The slaughterhouse that has its costs and sales in the best order can now take a step further in the fight for the pigs. In any case, we are going up with double digits and that is why the Farmer’s Pig Price can increase its quotation by 10 cents to 2.35 euros.

In Germany it is also going up smoothly, but Teleporc had to drop 1 cent to 2.31 euros last Tuesday. The euphoria had been a little too great a week earlier. On Wednesday, the ISN announced an increase of 12 cents, bringing them to 2.20 euros. The next Teleporc auction was on Friday morning and it ended up at 2.39 euros. A plus of 8 cents and with that the way is clear to increase again next Wednesday by at least 10 cents. The German slaughterhouses do not yet fully agree with this, but they probably have little choice. Back to Teleporc, it could have been € 2.40, but because a pig farmer did not think an offer of € 2.425 was enough, it was not included in the listing. In other words: German pig farmers are expecting a further increase.

Back to those numbers. The number of slaughters in the Netherlands fell by 11,000 to 300,000 animals, but the slaughter weight remained unchanged at 99.9 kilograms. Not every pig farmer wants to deliver quickly, certainly not if you receive 10 euros more per pig the following week. In Germany, the number of slaughters fell by 20,000 to 727,000 pigs. The slaughter weight here decreased by 0.2 kilograms.

Ook volgende week gaan weer een aantal varkenshouders opnieuw hun varkens naar Duitsland exporteren

The export of pigs to Germany according to the official figures fell by 1400 to 13,000 animals in week 5. We do see that figures are adjusted afterwards, so it remains difficult to provide honest information about this. According to the traders, exports have increased considerably and next week a number of pig farmers will again export their pigs to Germany. First a few loads on trial. The question is how much the current Tempo and Duroc pigs yield in the German points system and how much do they slaughter.

In Belgium they are now also putting their best foot forward. Westvlees increased its quotation by 14 cents to 2.12 euros. Denmark noted plus 4 cents. France increased by 6.5 cents and is already at a plus of 25 cents for this year. Italy lags somewhat behind with plus 3 cents, but Spain increased 4.5 cents, bringing it to 15 cents for this year. How far will we go, it remains difficult to say, but give the answer yourself if you know the price of the parts. These go up like a spear. Neck pieces and trimmings do plus 20 to 25 cents and the hams, shoulders, middles do an extra 15 to 20 cents.

Een handelaar ze: ‘Al bied je 100 euro, je krijgt geen big. Ze zijn er niet’

The price on the piglet market is also moving forward with great strides and that is of course due to the good prospects for the pig market, but also due to the very tight supply of piglets. A trader said: ‘Even if you offer 100 euros, you will not get a piglet. They’re not here.’ In Germany it is not much different, here too the demand is high and the supply small. The German VEZG increased its price by 6 euros to 77 euros. The Farmers’ Pigs Price is doing slightly less and has increased by 5 euros to 75 euros. Here too the question is, where is that going. For the time being still up with big steps, the supply remains small and the pig market remains good. Pig farmers, you deserve it.
