Columbia University Cancels May 15 Graduation Ceremony Following Student Feedback and Protests

Columbia University is canceling the graduation ceremony that was to take place on May 15.

The institution indicates that it made this decision based on the input and opinions of the student leaders.

The university ensures that they, instead, focus their attention on class days and school-level ceremonies.

Based on your feedback, we have decided that School Days and mid-level ceremonies will be the centerpiece of our graduation activities, in which students are honored individually with their peers, rather than the University-wide ceremony scheduled for May 15.” says the statement they sent out to students and their families.

This decision comes after weeks of protests on the University campus, escalating last week when dozens of protesters were arrested.

School Days and ceremonies scheduled for the South Lawn of Morningside campus will be moved to the Baker Athletic Center in Columbia, with the same schedule.
