Columbia student stabbed to death and tourist wounded during stabbing attacks in New York – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – A Columbia student was stabbed to death and a tourist was injured near a New York City park Thursday night in what police say were random attacks. The suspect was caught threatening a third victim with the kitchen knife used in the attacks, but that victim was not injured, police say.

The attacks occurred around 11 p.m. in the Morningside Park area of ​​Upper Manhattan, according to the New York Police Department. The victim who died is a 30-year-old Columbia University student. Police say he was stabbed in the stomach while walking near 123rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue.

The second victim, a 27-year-old tourist, was stabbed in the torso near 110th Street and Cathedral Parkway. He is in stable condition, police said.

Authorities say the suspect was detained by police near 104th Street and Central Park North and charges are pending. Other details about the individual or a possible motive were not immediately released.
