There were plastic counters at the entrance and exit of the refrigerated space in the Colruyt stores. Since customers did not find them pleasant, the supermarket chain has gradually removed them since 2013 every time a store was refurbished. An air curtain has been inserted in its place.
But now the flaps in all 249 stores are temporarily returning. They are already hanging up in sixty locations, the rest will follow. “It’s less pleasant, but it’s for a good cause,” says Colruyt spokesperson Hanne Poppe. Colruyt says a procedure has been devised to disinfect the flaps if necessary.
The chain hadn’t thrown away all the flaps so they could be reused every now and then, like during a heat wave.
