The colorful splash of color for the Stade Hanseatic Port is here: The colorfully painted Alsterschute has floated into its destination next to the Schwedenspeicher by crane. On Sunday morning, the historic boat, which has been extensively renovated in recent months, was lifted from the city harbor into the neighboring harbor basin of the Hanseatic Port. The barge had to be hooked by a crane because there is no longer direct access from the swing to the Hanseatic port by water. Since the crane was already on site, it was used to move the Ewer Willi into the city harbor. The ship, which has its traditional berth in the Hanseatic port, is brought to the shipyard for its routine stay. Hansestrasse was completely closed during the action.

While this oldest surviving Hamburg Alster barge was moored at the Hanseatic and Holzhafen, it was completely gutted and given a new interior. The former barge was also given a colorful coat of paint by the Berlin artist collective “44flavors”. At its final berth in the Stade Hanseatic Harbor, the barge will be used for cultural and gastronomic purposes as well as serving as a hostel for artists and a place for exhibitions and cabaret.

The barge is not only intended to provide a colorful counterpoint to the picturesque ambience around the fish market and to combine tradition and modern art. In the future, it will also serve as a floating home and inspiring place of work for artists who stay there for three months as part of the “Stader Uul” art scholarship. In the remaining nine months, the barge will be available for events and can be booked by guests as an exceptional place to stay overnight. There is also a gastronomic offer.

The Alsterschute is part of the “Reactivation Hanseatic Port” project as part of the “Perspective Inner City” program. The Hanseatic city of Stade has successfully acquired funding from the “Perspective Inner City” program to realize this project. The combination of maritime flair, modern art and cultural events is intended to make the Hanseatic port a lively attraction for locals and guests.
