Shesar Hiren Rhustavito lost to Lee Zii Jia in the first round of the 2023 India Open at KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, Wednesday (18/1). Vito lost to Lee with a score of 22-20, 19-21, 12-21.
The first game of Vito vs Lee was tight. The two athletes exchanged points until the score was tied 7-7. Lee led 11-7 in the first game interval.
But Vito was able to get back up and get back ahead after the interval. Vito got five consecutive points to win 14-11.
After winning 19-16 points Vito suddenly stopped because Lee evened the score to 19-19. Vito ended up winning 22-20 in the first game.
In the second game, Lee Zii Jia immediately attacked Vito by playing aggressively. Lee was 5-0 up.
Vito was able to even the score to 6-6 after winning five consecutive points. The Indonesian athlete was even able to turn ahead by 8-6.
However, after the score was tied at 8-8, Lee Zee Jia shot up to win 11-8. After the interval, Lee’s points were unstoppable by Vito.
On several occasions, Lee’s attacks overwhelmed Vito so he returned the ball with responsibility. Lee took advantage of that moment to increase the score to 17-10.
Two consecutive errors from Lee saw Vito shorten the gap to 13-18. Lee’s failure to play in front of the net made Vito keep the distance to 18-20.
Having reduced the position to 19-20, Vito failed to stem Lee’s attack, who won the second game, 21-19, via a straight smash. A disappointed Vito was seen hitting the racket on the court. The match continued to a rubber game.
Two mistakes by Vito put Lee Zii Jia up 8-3 at the start of the third game. Lee took the lead again in the third game at 11-3.
Vito’s failure to reach placing Lee Zii Jia made the Malaysian athlete win 21-12.
