Reigning champion real Madrid he has to bite his fingers after the away game Villarreal. Scored by two penalties, Real Madrid were forced to swallow defeat with a score of 1-2.
Villarreal hosts Real Madrid at De La Ceramica Stadium on Saturday (7/1/2023) evening WIB. The two teams drew goalless throughout the first half.
Yeremy Pino gave Villarreal the lead just after the break. Madrid then struck back from a Karim Benzema penalty, but it was soon disallowed after Villarreal converted another Gerard Moreno penalty.
With this result, Real Madrid missed the opportunity to reach the top league standings. The whites they remain in second place with 38 points from 16 games, behind Barcelona, who contest Monday (9/1) at morning WIB. Meanwhile Villarreal moved up to fifth after collecting 27 points.

Villarreal almost shocked Real Madrid. In the fifth minute, Alberto Moreno sent in a cross from the left wing which was greeted by Francis Coquelin with a backhand. Thibaut Courtois was subdued, but the ball only hit the Real post.
Madrid responded in the 14th minute. Karim Benzema fired a curling shot from the edge of the Villarreal penalty area, although the ball remained slightly over the goal.
Seven minutes later, Madrid created another chance. Benzema’s partnership with Eder Militao ended with a shot from the right side of the Villarreal penalty area. However, Moreno’s control meant that Militao’s shot only nestled on the outside of the goal.
Villarreal wasted a golden opportunity. Gerard Moreno’s through ball cleared the lead from Yeremy Pino to create a one-on-one situation. Courtois made a good save to repel Pino.
Not long after, Gerard Moreno’s cross for Chukwueze on the right wing penetrated the Madrid defence. Chukwueze’s pass to Alex Baena was followed by an early strike, the ball went wide from the top corner of the goal.
Before the break Federico Valverde crossed for Benzema. The ball passes to Vinicius Junior, who finishes with a low shot. Pepe Reina is still vigilant to secure the ball.
Pino’s stab from the left ended with a tug on Dani Parejo. However, Parejo failed to control the ball properly, so Courtois caught the ball easily. The 0-0 score lasted until the end of the first half.
The deadlock was broken in the 47th minute. Pino burst into the Real Madrid goal to open Villarreal’s lead to 1-0.
Gerard Moreno fired a cross on the left side of the penalty area, which opened up Real Madrid’s defence. Yeremy Pino got up uncontrollably and finished with a kick to the right leg.
After falling behind, Madrid have increased their intensity. Toni Kroos’ pass to Benzema ended with a shot from under the net but only from the Villarreal post.
Sorry. The referee awarded Real Madrid a penalty after a handball by Juan Foyth while defending Vinicius Junior. Benzema stepped up to take the lead, then sent Reina the wrong way to level the score at 1-1 in the 60th minute.
Just a minute later, Villarreal were awarded a penalty after David Alaba’s handball after slipping when Foyth was pushing the ball. Gerard Moreno outwitted Courtois firing a low shot to the left.
Villarreal took the lead again against Real Madrid 2-1 in the 63rd minute.
A brilliant opportunity generated by Real Madrid to score the equalizer. However, Rodrygo’s experiment was not yet targeted. Valverde’s cross was received by Rodrygo and then followed up with a low shot, but the ball narrowly deflected off the Villarreal post.
In fact, Villarreal continued to press in the last minutes of regular time. Arnaut Danjuma took too long to control the ball in the Madrid penalty area, before it was passed to Chukwueze who fired a shot at the near post. Courtois clears the ball for a corner.
Villarreal missed the chance to score a third goal. In the dying seconds, Danjuma failed to hit the ball into an empty net after being left behind by Courtois following a Real Madrid corner. Danjuma’s shot from the front of the penalty area went wide near the post. Even so, Villarreal still have the right to win with the score of 2-1.
