Landeskog underwent two knee surgeries last year. He first had surgery in March, but was still able to return for the playoffs and help Colorado win the Stanley Cup. He underwent a second arthroscopic procedure in October and has not appeared on the ice since. “We did what we could, but unfortunately it didn’t work out,” the winger told reporters on Thursday.
Landeskog spent his entire career in Colorado. The Avalanche made him the youngest captain in NHL history in 2012 before his 20th birthday, and the Swedish forward has since played 738 regular season games for the club, scoring 571 points (248+323). In the Tre kronor jersey, Landeskog became world champion twice (2013, 2017) and won silver at the Olympic Games in Sochi 2014.
