Colomiers. Twinning and Support: a new president

During the last general assembly of Colomiers Jumelage et Support (CJS), Maurice Paquier, president for more than 40 years, passed on his torch to Jean-Marc Barrau, supported by Jean-Pierre Soulié and Alain Semenou, who will be the vice- presidency. If this turning point will mark the history of the CJS, all its passionate volunteers will continue their actions in favor of Burkina Faso, “a country where we quickly created very strong links”, recalls Maurice. “Our group was born following a call from Abbé Pierre” remember Annette (his wife), Guy Amadieu and Michel Gazaniol, still loyal to the post, who were among the founders.

Member of the national federation ActionAid France – Peuples Solidaires, the CJS is well known to Columérins who participate in large numbers in its giant biannual flea markets. It supports many socio-economic projects, carried out locally by the Burkinabés, in key areas: education, health, agricultural development, water supply. In 2020, despite the health crisis and thanks to donations and sales (which still continue, online or directly), the association contributed to the financing of a maternity hospital and agro-ecological projects, for a total amount of € 26,000.

“The supported sites are far from conflicts, and the Covid had little impact on the population. The work was therefore able to continue normally”, rejoice the volunteers, tireless collectors and deliverers of objects, still at work with their almost new truck. “By reselling the items we are given at very low prices, we also meet many needs here. We have an economic and social role!”

Incidentally, they recall that they are always looking for a room on the ground floor to store their large furniture, and that household appliances in good condition are particularly sought after.

Financial donations (to be sent to 13, rue des Sports) are subject to a tax receipt.
