Colomiers. The Red Cross to rescue isolation

During the confinement, the local Colomiers unit of the French Red Cross had set up the “Red Cross in your home” system, which is aimed at vulnerable people in situations of social isolation.

A service which is extended at least until May 25th. Via a call to the town hall toll-free number 0801 902 480, it is possible to benefit from listening and psychological support, and to order food and pharmaceutical products. These missions are carried out by around forty volunteers. “To date, this initiative has made it possible locally to ensure more than 300 solidarity deliveries including mainly food deliveries, but also a large number of pharmaceutical deliveries, essential and essential for the good continuity of medical treatment for isolated people” welcomes Patrice Mounal, active member of the columerin cell.

Various solidarity missions

Beyond that, the device “Hello how are you?” completes the process since the volunteers extend the contact in order to take news, reassure and guide the beneficiaries if necessary. For their part, the first aid volunteers, deprived of temporary activity, participated in these solidarity missions in connection with the social action volunteers. Some rescuers helped the SAMU to regulate phone calls at the start of a pandemic, for example. Several partners joined the Colomiers Red Cross in this surge of civic mutual aid: this is the case of COVID 3D with a donation of protective visors for volunteers, or even the Maison de la Presse and Carrefour Market via appreciable logistical support.

The famous slogan “The Red Cross is everywhere you need us” has taken on new meaning in recent weeks.

To best help the entity, a donation is possible on the site support.croix-rouge.fr.
