Colomiers. The former mayor is the first to be vaccinated

First magistrate of the town for thirteen years, Bernard Sicard was the first Columérin vaccinated against Covid-19, yesterday afternoon, at the Capitany sports complex. Arrived before the opening time of the center, the honorary mayor was delighted to be able to interact with the medical and nursing staff who were very attentive to him.

“Born in 1942, I am part of that generation which experienced all the compulsory vaccines at the end of the 1950s”, recalls Bernard Sicard. “And we were entitled to recall when arriving at military service. I am therefore serene today, especially as if we want to interrupt the chain of the disease, we must be vaccinated. Thanks to the vaccine, we have overcome tuberculosis or polio in the 70s. Hopefully now the logistics will follow because my wife is still waiting for a date “.

A long wait

The wife of the former mayor is not the only one to wait to be vaccinated… In front of the sports building transformed into a vaccination center, a dozen people came to the news yesterday for the first day of vaccination intended for the most of 75 years and the most fragile.

“I can not get an appointment when for three days I have made at least 200 calls,” says Marie Berdoulat in despair, who made the trip to Tournefeuille. “I’ve been trying since 6 am on Friday and each time an answering machine asks to wait for 5 or 10 minutes and after 20 minutes no one has answered and it cuts off. Let us be told to stop calling if it is not possible”. At her side, an octogenarian from Pibrac also came to try her luck on the spot, in vain … She deplores “that a single telephone number is put into service for all of France”.

24 doses per day

If the number is regional, however, it does not manage to meet everyone or meet the demand for a population pool of 110,000 people. In addition to Colomiers, the vaccination center also concerns the inhabitants of the neighboring municipalities of Tournefeuille, Plaisance-du-Touch, Léguevin, Pibrac, Brax and La Salvetat-Saint-Gilles.

“For the moment, the doses available to us allow us to vaccinate 24 people per day,” explains Doctor Simon Mathé, who coordinates the columérin vaccination center, open Monday to Saturday from 2 pm to 6 pm. “It’s not much but it also corresponds to the fact that we are in a weakly affected area. We hope to double this number soon. We are ready to increase the pace as soon as possible”.

Full until February 15

For now, the appointments are full until February 15. New dates are not yet available because in a month the first vaccinated will have their booster. Only the increase in the doses provided will be able to resume the appointment booking quickly. Local logistics are ready. A doctor, a nurse and a municipal administrative officer are present during opening hours. Their number may also increase as soon as more vaccines become available.

Agreement between the town hall and the doctors

Yesterday, on the occasion of the opening of the vaccination center, a partnership agreement was signed between the town hall and the medical profession grouped for more than a year in CPTS (territorial professional health community).

“This act of partnership aims to be more responsive and in constant dialogue with doctors in order to meet the expectations of the population”, explains Karine Traval-Michelet, mayor of Colomiers. “We also wish to evolve towards the well-being and the quality of protection of the most vulnerable. This privileged relationship allowed us to open last March in Colomiers the first Covid consultation center in France”. Doctor Frédéric Venouil, representing the CPTS, adds: “This tool was set up by liberal health professionals in a territorial logic in order to meet needs. The priorities are access to care, support for people , the attractiveness of the territory and prevention, an area for which our collaboration finds its full meaning with the town hall and the CCAS. Our objective is also to expand our community to neighboring municipalities “.
