This Thursday, December 15, those elected will discuss the budget guidelines for the year 2023 in an economic context upset by the energy crisis and by the increase in costs that do not spare the communities.
For their last City Council meeting of the year, this Thursday, December 15, at 6:00 PM, in public session, at City Hall, elected officials will have to discuss Council’s budget guidelines for 2023. A dangerous exercise taking into account the context economic due in particular to the energy crisis and the fallout from the war in Ukraine.
Already during the previous city council meeting in November, elected officials had to vote for an additional budget of almost 10 million euros to meet the new expenses. “This additional budget is linked to structural upheavals due to a particular context of energy crisis,” explained Karine Traval-Michelet, mayor of Colomiers. “The consequences are evident on the city’s finances.” The budget rapporteur, Philippe Briançon, mentioned an additional budget of €9,306,258 split between the operational section (€1,451,106) and the investment section (€7,855,153). “Expenses relating to the cost of energy account for 1.5 million euros”, observed the deputy mayor. “We have to add the 1.2 million needed to cover the increase in the index point for territorial agents and other increases linked, in particular, to food spending”.
“Go in the same direction”
In the ranks of the opposition, Patrick Jimena recalled: “It is the first time in a long time that we have voted for an additional budget. We are entering a more than uncertain path. We are with our backs against the wall. It is an alarm on our model of society of consumption. We will also have to make common cause to overcome the difficulties and go in the same direction. The need to find substitutes for the energies of oil is fundamental”.
To which the mayor had replied: “We are really in a change of model, hit by crises with the need to protect individuals and businesses. Faced with unforeseen and brutal expenses even if the community has prepared. Especially since the measures State taxes don’t help us.
This evening the debate promises to be fueled by savings measures and adaptation to the context.
