The residents of the Allégorie senior residence will take possession of their accommodation from March on allée du Roussillon, a stone’s throw from the town hall. But already next week, the first doctors of the medical center, located on the ground floor of the building, will move into their new premises. Meeting with doctor Pascal Blet, general practitioner in Colomiers who has been coordinating and supporting the project for seven years.
At the end of last year, there was a lack of a radiology practice for the Allegorie medical center to be complete (read our edition of November 4, 2020)… What about today?
Reason prevailed in the face of the difficulty of getting a CT scan on an outpatient unit. I got back in touch with the group initially invested in the project and since last Friday, it is quite recent, a signing marks the arrival of five radiologists already established in Colomiers, Plaisance-du-Touch and Fonsorbes. The recent closure in Colomiers of one of the two city-center radiology practices was decisive in this installation.
The arrival of radiology therefore makes it possible to also accommodate an unscheduled care unit to treat “small” emergencies …
Indeed, radiology was the condition for the arrival of this unscheduled care unit. It is scheduled to be installed around the summer for 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. An on-call service will be provided on weekends for radiology with the possibility of remote interpretation.
What is unscheduled care?
This is all that is not done by appointment. Essentially, it is trauma that general practitioners can no longer exercise and which requires adapted small surgery and sterilization equipment that we no longer have in our offices to treat wounds, sprains, fractures … People who suffer renal colic attacks or asthma attacks can also be managed by this unscheduled care unit.
When should the medical center open?
From Monday, January 25, the general practice and the nursing practice will be the first to open. Next, at the beginning of March, the ophthalmology practice will be opened, followed by the chiropractor and the health and well-being area. In mid-March, an adjoining building will house the Aibio analysis laboratory. The last installation phase concerns specialists, urologists, cardiologists and gastroenterologists who are scheduled for the month of September.
Are all spaces filled?
No, there is still a vacant room which could see a team of gynecologists and perhaps pulmonologists set up, specialties which are lacking in the town.
Does the result match the expectations of the initial project?
It is true to my initial expectations knowing that it took no less than seven years to bring this project to fruition. I am therefore satisfied with the result even though I have lived through periods of doubt and great loneliness to get there. The unwavering support of my wife has kept me from giving up. I also thank the investment of all the health professionals involved in this project. There is a real enthusiasm for wanting to work together between teams of radiologists and unscheduled care physicians. As coordinator, I am delighted with this commitment, the exchanges that have taken place as well as having worked with passionate people.
