The Columérins are the first to beat Vannes this season. This was thanks to good match management and the contribution of decisive young players.
The leader has been there! Vannes, which was nevertheless undefeated and launched on the basis of the points record in the season, fell on a bone this Thursday at Michel-Bendichou. The Columérins have indeed achieved a “tremendous performance”, according to their captain Anthony Coletta: “What they are offering is solid in all sectors of the game. But we prepared our match well. not due to chance: there was a reconsideration after this mixed start to the season, work and the new players brought freshness.”
As in Montauban six days earlier, the Haut-Garonnais demonstrated perfect footwork, systematically pushing the Bretons home. And above all, their few clear chances were transformed into points. “Before, it was a little problem that we had. We sometimes insisted too much for nothing and we got tired. We worked on our efficiency, revealed the third wing row. Now, we score more when we enter the 22 opposing meters. It’s due to the fact that we are calmer. We know how to take points at the right time.”
It is true that in two outings, Colomiers Rugby showed quite rare composure. Without rushing, Julien Sarraute’s men managed to keep the visitors at bay and always made the right strategic choices. “We take an example from teams like Vannes who remain calm, manage their match, control and are clean,” underlines the Columérin captain.
“It’s these young people who make us win”
Even the young players are getting up to speed. Ugo Séguéla, 22, was replaced in the key scrum-half position by Arthur Diaz, 20. And Jérémy Béchu, who came into play to replace Aldric Lescure, who is playing his 9th season in Pro D2, largely met expectations with a breakthrough, a rewarded scratch and even a try. “It’s nice to come out with good performances,” reacted the young player trained in Colomiers. “But it’s still quite strange when you enter the field. It’s been my dream since I was little to enter this pitch.”
“They supposedly have no experience, and in the end they are the ones who make us win,” said Anthony Coletta. “When we see Jérémy, Arthur or Wahel (Ponpon), we simply see good players. And for the players at the end of the race like me, it’s a source of pride. They make us progress.”
