Colomiers. Reshuffles before the second round

On the evening of the first round of the already distant municipal election, three out of five lists qualified for the second round to be held on June 28. If the health crisis and political surprises do not come to disturb decisions once again, three lists will still be in contention despite some changes in their composition…

Arriving in the lead with 42.10% of the votes cast, the “Esprit Colomiers” list, led by the outgoing mayor Karine Traval-Michelet, will be submitted to the prefecture without any change before June 2.

Merging between two lists

Second in the ballot, Patrick Jimena last week called for a union of political forces in the face of the health crisis (read our May 20 edition).

“Only Eric Kaczmarek responded favorably to this call,” said Patrick Jimena. “A first exchange allowed us to agree on the orientations presented on the text of the call for union: defense of public services, solidarity to leave no one on the sidelines, strengthened local democracy, ecological transition, local economy resilient”. A merger will therefore take place between the “Living better in Colomiers” list (27.34%) led by Patrick Jimena and the “Reconcilions Colomiers” list (5.91%) led by Eric Kaczmarek.

Contested Alliance

This alliance also caused the departure and even the anger of running mate Patrick Jimena, some of whom still sit on city council. Thus, Alain Refalo (who was a candidate) and Med Kechidi (who was not) will join a new group from the municipal council on June 3 with, in particular, Richard Cuartero who will chair it and … Damien Laborde. Arriving third in the first round at the head of the “Let’s dare another story” list (22.52%), Damien Laborde will also present the same list as on March 15. “We will go back to battle as before even if it will be difficult to campaign under these conditions,” said the candidate who confirmed his maintenance without merging the list.

At the end of the day yesterday, Karine Traval-Michelet informed Patrick Jimena that she asked her running mates to vote on this proposal and that they opposed it. “A call to union may seem attractive, but we will have to face the difficult situation that awaits us with a solid team,” said the candidate.
