Guillaume Hör, Colomiers performance manager, was fully involved in the Columérins pre-season camp which took place this week in Saint-Lary-Soulan.
The players said the preparation was tougher than last year. As a performance manager, can you confirm that?
Yes, but it must be said that all the teams are moving in this direction. Afterwards, my benchmarks indicate that it’s not much harder than last year. It depends on the players and if they spoke during the holidays (he smiles). The difference may be in the data we have. The history is logically larger, which allows us to be more precise.
Can we lose a lot in six weeks of cutting?
In theory, the qualities of strength are lost from ten days. Ditto for the cardio, even for someone lambda. I left the players for two and a half weeks. Afterwards, they had three weeks of recovery. Even if it is with a low workload.
Should the peak of form be reached at the start of the season or later, as the season is long?
It is hard in team sport to speak of a peak. In individual sport such as athletics, they have two deadlines in the year. For us, it’s more of a state of form. Of course, you have to be in good shape at the start of the season. Our strength is that over the past three years we have had a very good start to the season. We were above in rugby because we do a lot of integrated work, and physically too. That’s why we won the first five games. The goal is to achieve this form at the start of the season and after that, you have to manage to maintain it throughout the season. Especially since we play all the matches to win them.
The last two seasons have seen the number of injuries accumulate over the same periods. Is this a factor on which the preparation plays?
All is relative. We had no more injuries than the other teams. It also depends on injuries. Rugby is a traumatic sport. This year, we had a lot of injuries at one point. But 80% of injuries are traumatic. When you have a fracture, a sinking of the collarbone, a knee that takes a staphylo… when there was only a muscle injury.
