Colomiers. From the metro to Val d’Aran the major projects for 2022

the essential
Many structuring projects will see their construction begin this year. From the launch of the 3rd metro line to the renovation of the Val d’Aran district, Colomiers is approaching 2022 with dynamism and ambition.

While the columérine population has just crossed the 40,000 inhabitants mark with the passage in 2022, the town is preparing to experience a year of major transformations. On the occasion of her greetings to the press and the population, Karine Traval-Michelet, mayor of Colomiers, revealed the major stages in the development of the city.

“2022 is a rich and very engaging year for municipal projects,” said the elected official. “Colomiers is an attractive town which must prepare its territory for the major challenges of tomorrow”.

Metro works

One of the major projects of the year concerns the start of work on the 3rd metro line which will link Colomiers station to Labège, via Blagnac and Toulouse, by 2028. But the preparatory phase begins now amenities. In the coming days, a new transitory bus relay will be created on the François-Mitterrand esplanade in order to allow the drilling of the future underground line under the current bus station.

This will also involve the closure of the station car park from September.

Ecological transition

It is also in 2022 that the site of the house of ecological transitions will be launched between the Village and the Plein Center. The three applications from project leaders are studied until January 19th. Notification will be made in March with the start of work expected in November.

Environment Brigade

To fight against incivility and provide a solution to everyday problems, the town hall sets up, from March, an urban brigade for the environment. Four officers on bicycles will criss-cross the town to track indelicate behavior in the face of unauthorized dumping, in particular, but also to carry out prevention and notify the competent services as soon as a problem is noticed or reported by local residents. Equipped with electric bikes, they will also have an electric vehicle.

Urban renovation

After the rehabilitation of the Fenassiers district, which is barely finished, the City is embarking on another long-term project with the urban renewal of the greater Val d’Aran. Classified as a priority district for city policy, this project will change the face of Colomiers. “Beyond the district, it is a city project that we are carrying out here”, specifies the mayor. In a few weeks, the Gascogne bar will be destroyed. In June, it will be the turn of the footbridge over rue Charles-de-Gaulle. 300 social housing units must be rehabilitated and 200 new apartments built. Other major renovation work will begin this year, in particular in the districts of Pelvoux, En Jacca, but also rue Gilet, not forgetting the revitalization of the Plein-Centre. Faced with the commercial decline, the town hall has launched a reflection to find the pleasure of going to this commercial sector of the city. The desire is also to reduce the place of the car beyond the rue du Centre. A reflection is also underway to propose a new cultural offer in place of the old cinema.

Soon dumpsters?

Faced with the problems caused by the garbage collectors’ strike, the town hall is studying the possibility of having Toulouse-Métropole, which manages the collection of household waste, install dumpsters that would allow residents to drop off their garbage bags. “I hope that the discussions in progress will make it possible to find a rapid solution to this conflict”, indicates Karine Traval-Michelet. “If however this does not unblock, four dumpsters will be installed in Colomiers. Priority will be given to restaurateurs and traders. We do not want to break the strike but avoid health and safety problems”.
