However, we will have to assimilate it, live with this uncertainty and not procrastinate. We’re going to have to stay positive and continue to work well every week, think about playing and nothing else.
While waiting to play again next Friday at Aurillac, you started your season at Valence-Romans with a defeat at the end (32-19). How to explain it?
We had no problem with the attitude because everyone was very keen to play. It is rather that we started this meeting badly by chaining the errors and we did not know how to manage the situation, in particular the hinge where we were not able to reverse the pressure. Afterwards, in the second half, it was better and with ten minutes more, we could have reversed the score of the match. But it’s the 80 minutes before that count and where you have to play (laughs).
Finally, this call to order was not a bad thing while we felt a sweet euphoria reigning around the club?
It is true that since last March and the premature end of the season which we finished in first place, there is a certain confidence that has been established. Okay, so we just missed our first 40 minutes in Valence. there is nothing abnormal and it can happen in a season. Behind, we must get back to work. That’s all. And don’t pay attention to everything people say around the club. We have to stop thinking that we are strong, we have to demonstrate it at all matches.
In the absence of Aurélien Beco, you inherited the captaincy in Valencia. A rather complicated first.
Indeed, it was not easy in such a match. I tried to manage the situation as well as possible but I did not succeed. Managing to speak to the whole team is not yet easy for me because I do not fully master French. But I’ll work on it.
How do you see this season?
I think it will be complicated for everyone in its course because of the Covid. We all really want to play again, we need to regain confidence. But it is clear that the Covid risks influencing the championship, why not even distort it. What is certain is that it will be a game-changer.
