Meeting in City Council this Wednesday, March 17, 2021, the elected co-ordinators of the majority group and of the group “Live better in Colomiers” voted favorably a wish asking for the opening of the RSA (Income of active solidarity) to under 25 years.

“On Wednesday January 20, the Senate rejected a bill aimed at extending the RSA to young people aged 18-25 and on Thursday February 18, the government buried in the National Assembly, the AILES bill (individual assistance to the solidarity emancipation) which also proposed to set up a basic income extended to those under 25 and a universal endowment of 5,000 euros from the age of 18. However, in the midst of a health crisis, young people are just as – or even more – impacted by the lack of jobs ”, underlined the municipal Councilors in the introduction of this wish, presented by Mr. Franky Crebassa, Delegate Councilor.

The text of the wish presented to the City Council recalls the figures showing the precariousness of young French women and men, highlighted by the Observatory of Inequalities and by INSEE (National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies): “ Half of the poor are under 30 years old. Between 2002 and 2018, the poverty rate among young people aged 18-29 increased by more than 50%. ”

In order to challenge elected officials and the government, the text of the wish recalls that “the solution to precariousness is above all a stable job and the ideal towards which we must strive. The RSA is an aid below the poverty line, it is not a definitive solution and no one takes pleasure in it: it does not encourage idleness, however it could allow young people to no longer have to depend on food aid associations, charity and their families. Denying this right to the youth of France is a matter of deep contempt for this youth made vulnerable by increasingly austere policies ”.
