The Colomiers committee of Secours Populaire is one of the largest in Haute-Garonne and even in Occitania. Since the start of the health crisis, more than six hundred families have received emergency food aid, 30% more than normal. Unfortunately, the club has no more financial resources. He plays his survival and appeals to donors.
The consequences of the Covid-19 crisis are catastrophic for the poorest families. Benjamin Blanc, secretary general of the Secours Populaire de Colomiers committee, describes a critical situation: “From the first days of confinement, we saw the arrival of young workers, temporary workers or temporary workers, and many new families whose incomes brutally dropped. Many can not even afford the most basic expenses: six hundred families currently benefit from our emergency food aid. This represents for us 30% of additional activity, it is enormous! Fortunately, our team of volunteers effective mobilized from the first day to maintain three slots of emergency duty per week! “

But it is the very future of the committee that now preoccupies Benjamin: “All our charges continue to ‘run’, when we can no longer organize or participate in the usual public events in this season: the Plant Fair, the evenings planned charities (rock concerts, theater), clearance sales and garage sales have been canceled, we will not be holding our stands for the music and Saint John celebrations, and we can no longer collect food. therefore no longer any prospect of bringing in money in the short or medium term, when the needs have increased considerably. We have estimated our deficit at the start of the school year at € 50,000. The survival of the committee is squarely at stake. usual partners always support us, Carrefour Market in particular supplies us regularly, many thanks to them! At the parish center, the collection of the Refugee Platform of Colomiers brings us a supplement in fruits, vegetables, hygiene products, masks, baby products, in particular. Material solidarity is real, it’s great, but we’re still on the brink! “
