Miami, Sep 4 (EFE).- Colombian singer and songwriter Sebastián Yatra will make his Broadway debut on November 25 in the musical ‘Chicago’ at the Ambassador Theatre in New York.
“Getting to Broadway was something I had imagined, but it seemed impossible, and now that it’s becoming a reality in ‘Chicago,’ which is such an iconic show, it’s something that fills me with great excitement,” Yatra, a two-time Latin Grammy winner and two-time Grammy nominee, said in a statement.
“I remember many years ago when I went to see ‘Evita’ on Broadway, and Ricky Martin was in it. I was blown away to see a Latino on Broadway, acting in English. This is a commitment that requires a lot of discipline, and I can’t wait to learn a lot from the cast and crew,” he added.
Yatra will play the role of lawyer Billy Flynn in the musical for a limited time, until December 22, succeeding American actor and singer Max von Essen.
The Colombian recently released his new song, ‘Los domingos’, which marks his return to music after a year of silence, not counting ‘Akureyri’, the song he released with the Spanish singer Aitana last April.
The current cast of ‘Chicago’ also includes Charlotte d’Amboise, Robyn Hurder, Orfeh, Red Concepción and R. Lowe.
The musical premiered on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in November 1996 through February 1997, then moved to the Shubert Theatre until January 2003, and then later that year to the Ambassador Theatre.
