Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Sunday denounced the silence on the genocide committed by Israel in its aggression against the Gaza Strip.

The Colombian president said that “anyone who defends this genocide or remains silent in the face of it has destroyed their own human condition.”

“It seems that Goebbels is the one who directs the world’s communications so that tens of thousands of journalists remain silent in the face of their murdered colleagues and 20,000 babies torn to pieces by bombs,” the president said on the digital network X.

The president said that “Goebbels, Hitler’s communicator, imposed the extreme right’s school of communication, which is based on the extension and repetition of lies, and which allows for manipulation and mental control.”

“The extreme right assumes control over individuals who are devoid of knowledge and have no mental freedom. Lies and passionate unreason define the extreme right militant,” added Petro.

He also denounced the attack by an occupying army on a television news network.

Zionist forces stormed the offices of Al Jazeera in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank and ordered the Doha-based news network to stop its routines as part of an exercise in coercing press freedom.

The head of the network’s West Bank office, Walid al-Omari, was ordered to close for 45 days, on charges of “inciting and supporting terrorism.”

In this regard, journalist Givara Budeiri said that Israeli occupation forces used tear gas near the Al Jazeera office and Al-Manara Square, located in the center of the city in the occupied West Bank.

He added that Israeli soldiers had seized his cameras and that he feared for the security of the media outlet’s archives, which are stored in the office and are at risk of being destroyed.

Occupied West Bank correspondent Nida Ibrahim said in a phone call that the invasion of the West Bank and the closure order did not come as a surprise, after they had previously been prevented from reporting from inside Israel.
