With just days to go until the long-awaited start of the U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, excitement is already in the air, especially with the arrival of the participating teams. One of the first delegations to land in the country was the Australian team, which was welcomed with a vibrant display of Colombian culture at BogotΓ‘’s El Dorado airport.
The Australian players were pleasantly surprised to be welcomed with a live rendition of the iconic song “La pollera colorΓ‘”. The welcome, organised by local and cultural authorities, included the traditional sombrero vueltiao and live music, which quickly involved the players in a joyful celebration.

The video of the welcome, shared on the Colombian Women’s National Team’s social media, quickly went viral, accumulating more than 4,700 ‘likes’ and numerous comments highlighting the warmth and joy with which the Australian team was received.
The U-20 Women’s World Cup will be held between 31 August and 22 September 2024, with BogotΓ‘, MedellΓn and Cali as the main venues for the tournament. This edition of the championship will feature 24 teams, divided into six groups of four teams. The two best teams in each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, will advance to the round of 16, starting the knockout phase that will culminate in the grand final.
The Colombian team will make its debut on August 31, facing the Australian team at 6:00 p.m.
