Colombia caused a huge stunt at the World Cup on Sunday by beating Germany 2-1 in the group stage. The winning goal Manuele Vanegas came in the 97th minute of stoppage time.
Germany had made a big impression during the first group match against Morocco with a 6-0 win. As easy as the two-time world champion and number two in the FIFA ranking in that game created opportunities, it was so difficult in Sydney on Sunday.
Underdog Colombia kept the spaces small and ensured that offensive leader Alexandra Popp was barely put into position. The VfL Wolfsburg striker had a huge opportunity just before half-time, but she shot too hastily.
If the 0-0 half-time score was already a surprise, seven minutes after the resumption Colombia began to smell a sensation. Linda Caicedo played pretty well and then shot the ball past keeper Merle Frohms in a very nice way.

In the same group, Morocco won 1-0 against South Korea earlier in the day. Colombia has the maximum score of six points, but is not yet sure of the next round. Germany and Morocco have three points and South Korea is scoreless. During the last round in this group, Germany will duel with South Korea and Morocco will face Colombia. Those games are Thursday.
