According to the balance of the Ministry of Health, the country added 20,494 new infections of Covid-19 on the last day, accumulating to date 3.3 million cases and 87,747 deaths.
Of the 540 deaths registered on Saturday, the highest number occurred in the capital Bogotá, with 130 deaths, followed by the departments of Antioquia (71), Valle del Cauca (52) and Santander (49).
Regarding daily infections, Bogotá also led the statistics by accounting for 8,725, followed by Antioquia (3,619), Santander (1,289), Valle del Cauca (1,170) and Cundinamarca (1,068).
According to the Ministry of Health, Colombia presents a new peak of infections attributed mainly to the constant demonstrations against President Iván Duque that have been carried out since April 28 and that have already left around 60 deaths as a result of the repression.
In proportion to its population, Colombia is the sixth country with the most infections in Latin America and the Caribbean, and the fourth in deaths.
Vaccination began in mid-February but progresses slowly, with 9.3 million inoculated doses.
The Government’s plan aims to vaccinate 70 percent of the population this year, for which the country has already received 14.2 million vaccines from the Pfizer, Sinovac and Astrazeneca laboratories.
