Colombia reports 352 new cases of covid-19 this March 28

The Ministry of Health reported, this Monday, March 28, 2022, 352 new cases of covid-19 in Colombia. In the last 24 hours, 25,522 tests were processed, of which 9,803 are PCR and 15,719 are antigens.

The report also indicates that 15 Colombians died from the disease in the last day. In this way, the country reaches a total of 138,854 deaths from the virus since the start of the pandemic.

Putting all the figures together, Colombia reached a total of 6,083,643 infections, of which 4,435 are active cases and 5,916,624 correspond to positive cases who have already overcome the disease.

As for the regions with the most reported cases, Bogotá leads with 129 infected, followed by Antioquia with 27 infections and Cundinamarca in third place with 23.

There are 185 conglomerates in the country. The territories are: Amazonas, Antioquia (Ituango), Arauca, Atlántico, Barranquilla, Bogotá, Boyacá, Bolívar, Buenaventura, Caldas, Caquetá, Cartagena, Casanare, Cauca, Cesar, Chocó, Córdoba, Cundinamarca, Huila, La Guajira, Magdalena, Meta, Nariño, Norte de Santander, Putumayo, Quindío, Risaralda, San Andrés, Santa Marta, Santander, Sucre, Tolima, Valle, Vaupés, Vichada, Guaviare and Guainía.

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced that as of March 28, The population aged 12 to 17 in the country will be able to access the booster dose against covid-19. The Vice Minister of Public Health and Provision of Services, Germán Escobar, resolved some doubts regarding the third inoculation of minors and the process that will be carried out.

The decision to enable the third dose to this population group was made after the Vaccine Advisory Committee accepted the recommendation of a group of experts. The Ministry explained that it is constantly searching for scientific evidence to make this type of determination and frequently meets with experts who are part of the Colombian Consensus for the Management of covid-19.

The evidence showed that the population between 12 and 17 years old would increase their antibodies against covid-19 after receiving the booster dose. “That protection that the person has against the virus, and that this increase achieves greater protection against the variant with the greatest circulation, omicron,” Escobar argued.

The official commented that adolescents will be able to receive the third dose from the fourth month after completing the vaccination schedule. The biological to be applied will be the one produced by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer.
