Colombia received a new batch of donated Pfizer vaccines from Spain

This January 30, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection reported that Spain donated a new batch of Pfizer vaccines to Colombia. The 772,000 biologicals have already been received by the entity and will be distributed according to the National Vaccination Plan.

“Thanks to the management of the Government before the Government of Spain, today they received new vaccines which correspond to a part of the 1,304,550 doses that will land in the country. This is part of a total batch of 6,488,820 donated doses,” the Ministry said in a press release.

The dose of this new batch will be destined for the first doses of those under 12 to 17 years of age. They will also be used to complete vaccination schedules together with the application of booster doses for the population over 18 years of age.

“We need the population over 50 years receive your booster dose and thus be able to guarantee the protection of your life”, assured the Ministry of Health. For this reason, he asked local governments to search for this population so that “all people go for their booster dose, taking into account that the country is going through a peak with predominance of the omicron variant”.

Gerson Bermont, director of Promotion and Prevention of the Ministry of Health, called attention to vaccination in Colombia. “It is to be remembered that vaccines are available in the country and it is necessary to complete schemes, go for a booster dose and continue with self-care measures to protect ourselves and our environment,” said the official.

The District Secretary of Health reported that, according to the reports delivered by the different vaccinating points and IPS, this Sunday the available doses of the Pfizer brand would be exhausted. The biological has been applied with priority to pregnant people as well as to complete the vaccination schedules.

Given the recent announcement of the new batch of vaccines donated from Spain, the entity is awaiting the delivery of biologicals to resume immunization of the prioritized population. The Secretariat assured that as soon as they have the doses, they will proceed with the thawing and logistics process to send them to the different vaccinating IPS and in this way apply them at the authorized points in the city.

“From the District Secretary of Health, a call is made to the citizens so that they have patience and do not go to the points to look for this type of vaccine until its availability is announced”, the entity stated in a press release.

Regarding the vaccination process with other vaccines, the Secretariat reminded citizens that it has more than 40 mass immunization points available throughout the city. In this way, they will be able to “prevent serious symptoms or even die from the spread of covid-19.”

The most recent report from the Ministry of Health indicates that until 11:59 on Friday, January 28, 2022, a total of 71,320,917 doses of the covid-19 vaccine.

According to the same report, the number of fully vaccinated Colombians, that is, those who have already received the two doses of the biological, currently amounts to 25,650,033 people, while 5,752,094 people have been immunized with a single dose. Equally, 5,498,539 booster doses have been applied.
