Colombia protests death toll rises; UN wants investigation into violence

Michelle Bachelet, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, called for a call between the different stakeholders. Talks between the government and opponents of the president have resumed today, after they stalled last week.

“I call for an end to all forms of violence, including vandalism,” Bachelet said. She also wants those involved in the violence to be held accountable. Seventeen ambassadors from EU countries have also spoken out against the wave of protests in Colombia, ANP news agency writes.

To quell the unrest, President Duque sent more security forces to Cali on Saturday:
