“Unveilings”, a song to the four winds

Until August 4, from www.teatrodigital.org It will be possible to access the work that the Truth Commission created as an artistic legacy to portray the armed conflict in Colombia and show a moving staging of the country’s cultural wealth. “Unveilings: a song to the four winds” is a work of theatre, music, dance and digital art, the product of the joint work between the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo and the La Paz Querida corporation, who came together to co-produce this show, which is directed by Teatro Cenit and Ivan Benavides.

The work brings together the knowledge and talents of 102 artists who on stage give life to this harrowing and beautiful rhapsody in which representative artists and communities from different territories participate, many of them victims of the armed conflict. A) Yes, “Unveilings” it becomes a forceful and necessary piece for the process of collective catharsis of the war and to achieve the dream of peace and forgiveness.

Valerian Boats

The bass baritone Valeriano Lanchas, known for being the first Colombian to sing in one of the meccas of world opera, the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, together with the pianist from Antioquia Juan David Mora, stars in a recital dedicated to the French Hector Berlioz, Henri Duparc and Maurice Ravel. These composers left among their musical legacy some of the most recognized pieces of the so-called French song, a genre dedicated to voice and piano that became popular in that country in the mid-19th century.

In Digital Theater you can relive the creations of these three musicians with “Les nuits d’été” (in Spanish, “Las noche de estio” or “Las noche de verano”), by Berlioz, a composer recognized mainly for his production of symphonies, whose most famous creation is the “Fantastic Symphony”. Later, Lanchas and Mora perform three creations by Henri Duparc: “Chanson triste”, “Extase” and “La vie antérieure”. The concert closes with “Cinq mélodies populaires grecques” by Ravel, which premiered between 1904 and 1906. Ravel was one of the most prolific composers of his generation and his work includes pieces such as “El bolero”, which had a great impact on popular culture.

The “Scars”

The Dance Company of the Teatro Mayor returns to the virtual stage of Digital Theater with “Cicatrices”, an experimental videodance film inspired by the work “Piel Extended” by the Colombian artist Luz Lizarazo, which was directed by the English Sarah Storer. The performance explores the behavior of the skin as the largest organ in the human body: its functioning, its reaction to trauma, its healing, its beautiful and delicate fragility, and its enormous strength and resilience.

The legacy of El Cholo Valderrrama

Llanera music is one of the traditional cultural expressions of Colombia. In this concert that will be available on the digital platform, the singer and songwriter Orlando “el Cholo” Valderrama, one of the best-known artists of the genre, presents his most famous songs, such as “My horse and I”, “My unconditional corduroy” and “Llanero yes I am a llanero”. In the instrumental part —harp, cuatro, bass, maracas and guitar—, he will be accompanied by Bordón Libre.

“Latin America in the heart”

Since its creation in 1992, the Colombian Opera Choir has had as directors Gustavo Yépez, Juan Carlos Rivas, Alejandro Zuleta and Luis Díaz Hérodier, who is currently its director. Under the direction of Díaz Hérodier, who is also a composer, the group will present the concert “Latin America in the heart” in Digital Theatre. In the show, which will be accompanied by the pianist Rubén Darío Pardo, the work “Silhouettes” will be performed, created by the Mexican Samuel Zyman for the Colombian Opera Choir.
