The Colombian National Team is close to playing a new official competition and for this reason, at GolCaracol.com, we contacted Jackson Martínez, who was a striker for the ‘tricolor’ and had an important step in European football.
Martínez Valencia, who was part of the Colombian National Team to play the Copa América in 2011 and 2015, was clear in his concepts and trusts the work of coach Reinaldo Rueda, who will lead the ‘tricolor’ in the Copa América Brazil 2021.
Jackson, you already know what it is to play a Copa América. How do you play a tournament like this?
“The Copa América is our Eurocup, it is that tournament that one wants to win, compete and with those rivals that you know you continually face in the Playoffs. The odds are shorter because perhaps there are not so many games to adjust for errors and balance in the team system. It is a competition that has great importance, this Copa América is going to do differently, what is complicated about all this is what has been happening and the uneasiness that this generates in many players ”.
What memories did you have from playing this competition?
“The same memories I have with each game I play with the National Team and each call in which I was able to go, that fervent desire to represent an entire country and be part of it”.
Colombia has already revealed the list of summoned for the Copa América, do you think that the National Team is a candidate to win the title?
“Of course, with the players we have, Colombia is a candidate for that, why not? The candidates are those who are there in the positions, speaking to players and as a national team, and Colombia has the tools to fight and be victorious in the second Copa América ”.
Finally, the popular ‘Chachachá’ sent a message of encouragement and support for the national team, which this Sunday, from 7:00 in the afternoon, will be measured against Ecuador, in its first duel in the Copa América Brazil 2021.
