After the brilliant performance of the Colombian U-17 women’s team in the past South American, coach Carlos Paniagua and his team begin a new challenge, this time in the U-20 category.
The youth competition will be held in Chile and the great favorite is Brazil, the only champion in the category with eight consecutive titles, while Colombia arrives with a record of one subtitle, achieved in 2010, after losing the final 2-0 to Canarinha and with four third places.
The challenge for the nationals is to reach one of the two quotas to be in the World Cup in Costa Rica, scheduled for August this year.
Colombia has only registered one participation in the U-20 World Cup, an achievement reached in 2010 when it advanced to the semifinal. On that occasion, with the leading role of Daniela Montoya from Antioquia and Yoreli Rincón from Santander, each with two goals.
The team that will seek classification in Chile has experience in the local League, and has players who play abroad and have international performances such as the Women’s Copa Libertadores.
