Colombia and New York Initiate Commercial Exchange Opportunities: Consul Facilitates Meeting with Mayor’s Office and Procolombia

Colombia and New York take the first step to explore commercial exchange opportunities: Consul Andrés Mejía facilitated a meeting between the city’s Mayor’s Office and representatives of Procolombia

The institutional strengthening between the Consulate in New York and the local authorities, one of the commitments of Consul General Andrés Mejía at the head of this consular mission, is advancing with significant results: Colombia and New York explore areas of joint work with the aim of beginning to structure a route to a commercial exchange.

The new relationship with the administration of Eric Adams facilitated a first meeting between the Commissioner for International Relations, Edward Mermelstein, and the Deputy Commissioner of Public-Private Partnerships and Economic Development, Kristen Edgreen Kaufman, with the Representatives of Procolombia in New York , Karen Schutt, Director of Investment; María José Abuabara, Director of Tourism, and Luis Alejandro Materon, Commercial Representative.

At the meeting, in which Consul General Andrés Mejía participated, areas of joint work related to Biotechnology, Clean Energy and Green Technologies were identified. Additionally, scenarios for exchanging experiences on these and other issues were explored, which will allow senior officials from national and regional bodies in Colombia to learn about the progress and processes that the local authority has designed for the city of New York on specific topics.

At the end of the meeting, they agreed to establish a work schedule to continue advancing in the consolidation of a commercial agenda.

Additionally, and within the framework of this meeting, the Consul General raised with the representatives of the Adams Mayor’s Office the need to bring Colombian and Latin American migrants, who are entrepreneurs in this city, closer to the empowerment and business training initiatives that the city offers.

Regarding the latter, the New York Mayor’s Office for International Relations committed to the Consulate to be a bridge between Small Business Services and other offices with these programs, with the Consular Mission.
