The foreign ministers of Colombia and Mexico signed the letter of intent on cooperation, with the purpose of contributing to the implementation of the 2016 Peace Agreement and the ‘total peace’ Policy of the National Government.
According to the signatories, the document shows the importance that both countries give to South-South Cooperation instruments, conducive to the exchange of knowledge and good practices between partners from the Global South that promotes actions in sectors of agriculture, education, youth , and trade, important for the fight against drugs.
“We, our people, are going through great suffering from drugs and cartels, and from all the problems, and we wanted to accompany Colombia in the organization of this meeting because today more than ever it is very important to advance in this change of paradigm and address the drug problem with a much more comprehensive view, moving forward if we decisively dedicate ourselves to addressing the ultimate causes that allow organized crime to take advantage and nourish and expand, men and women who are forced to dedicate their lives to producing crops or psychoactive substances”, said Alicia Bárcena, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico.
The cooperation letter was signed on the last day of the Latin American and Caribbean Conference on Drugs that is being held in Cali and whose purpose, according to the Foreign Minister of Colombia Álvaro Leyva, is to be the preamble to a definitive forum to which they aspire. The heads of state of Latin America and the Caribbean are present, to express the vision of each country on drugs and build a voice in the end, unique to present to the world.
