Colombia and Ecuador reestablish power line connection – 2024-05-02 14:40:40

Colombia y Ecuador They restored their power line connection, one day after announcing their suspension, as reported by the Ministry of Energy and Mines this April 28th.

“We inform the citizens that, at 5:56 p.m., this Sunday, the Colombian and Ecuadorian systems were interconnected,” the State portfolio wrote in a statement released through its account. X.

In the letter it was indicated that this reconnection was possible after permanent efforts made from the National Electricity Operator (Pricing) and the Ministry of energy.

“These types of actions allow us to improve the security of the Ecuadorian electrical system,” the Ministry stated in the statement.

Colombia disconnected the power line with Ecuador on April 26, 2024. The exchange capacity between both nations, through that line, is 460 megawatts of power. Which means 11% of its maximum demand.

There were two interconnection lines between both countries with four circuits at a level of 230 kilowatts, which have a length of 272 kilometers.

According to Teleamazon, Colombia stopped selling electricity to Ecuador since March 29. Its territory is already experiencing a similar energy crisis due to drought.
