A World War II bomb was successfully defused in Cologne-Lindenthal. The city of Cologne is now gradually lifting the road closures, but some streets remain closed. The emergency services had to contend with a number of challenges.

British 500-pound bomb caused evacuations
A World War II bomb was successfully defused in Cologne-Lindenthal on Wednesday (07.08.). The city of Cologne reports that the closures are now gradually being lifted and residents can return to their homes. However, some streets will remain closed so that patients at St. Elisabeth Hospital can be brought back to their wards as quickly as possible.

4,000 people can return to their homes
According to the city of Cologne, evacuating the hospital was a particular challenge. Around 200 firefighters and emergency services were deployed just to evacuate the hospital. In addition, there were two residents who refused to leave their homes. Fines are now being imposed on one of these residents.
Second bomb within two days
There was already a large evacuation operation in Cologne yesterday, Tuesday. In the late afternoon, the aerial bomb in the center of Rodenkirchen was successfully defused.
