Cologne-Rondorf: Five World War Bombs defused | Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger

The five American World War II bombs could be defused in the evening without any problems. At 6.30 p.m., the defuses were completed, a total of about 90 minutes, as the city of Cologne announced in the evening.

The residents could now return to their houses and apartments. All road closures will now be lifted, the KVB line 132 will return to the “Lindenweg” stop.

During exploratory work on Thursday morning in Cologne-Rondorf, five bomb bombs from the Second World War were found. According to the city, one of the duds no longer had a detonator and could be transported away without being defused.

Another bomb was found in the Rondorf-Nordwest development area.



Around noon, the ordnance disposal service found another bomb with a rear detonator in the field in the Rondorf-Nordwest construction area. This increased the number of ignitable bombs to five.

Clearance for defusing the five American World War II bombs was given at 5 p.m. Around two hours to around 7 p.m. were scheduled for defusing by the ordnance disposal service of the Düsseldorf district government.

The danger zone in the Rondorf Nord-West development area was defined with a 300-meter radius. 1240 people were affected by evacuation measures. A contact point has been set up for the residents in the gym of the Anne Frank School at Adlerstrasse 13.

19 bedridden people had to be evacuated from the danger area by ambulance, ten of whom were residents of a hospice.
