Many students were impressed when they saw the wrecked car in the schoolyard. The police had set up the car as part of a day of action.
Under the motto “Responsibility stops full throttle”, the Cologne police, together with the Cologne-Porz vocational college, organized a day of action against illegal vehicle tuning and banned car racing.
The campaign was primarily aimed at students in the upper grades of the vocational college. The aim was to sensitize young people and young adults to the dangers of illegal tuning and motor vehicle racing.
To this end, officials from the traffic task force, accident prevention and victim protection set up an action course in the schoolyard. At four stations, the students and their teachers were able to talk to civilian investigators of speeding crime, among others. The specialists explained, among other things, the dangerous consequences of a manipulated exhaust or tires that are too “wide”.
A real accident car attracted a lot of attention among the young people. This impressively showed the consequences of a “racing crash”.
For Anja Luxem, chief inspector of the Cologne police, the day of action was a complete success. The interest of the students was great. There would have been a lively exchange between police officers and students, Luxem told t-online. The police in Cologne was the first agency in North Rhine-Westphalia to carry out the nationwide prevention campaign.
