Large-scale operation of the fire brigade in Cologne’s Rheinauhafen: In the event of a fire in a five-story building, the situation is initially unclear.
A fire in a five-story building in Cologne’s Rheinauhafen triggered a major fire brigade operation on Thursday evening (December 29). A fire was reported in the office and commercial building on the street “Am Zollhafen” shortly before 10 p.m. The fire brigade was initially unable to find out the cause of the fire.
According to the fire brigade, the rising smoke had spread throughout the building complex and additional emergency services were required due to the unclear situation. A water pipe also burst in the heat, resulting in a pool of water on the ground floor of the building. There is a restaurant there.
According to firefighters, 45 emergency services and 14 vehicles were at the scene to put out the blaze.

Firefighters finally discovered the source of the fire on the fifth floor of the building and were able to put it out shortly after. The operation ended around 12:30. According to firefighters, no one was in the building at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire is unclear and an investigation is underway. The extent of the material damage has also not yet been clearly assessed. (shh)
