With a cynical-sounding statement, a defendant justifies a knife attack on an unsuspecting kiosk operator from Ehrenfeld, as it became known in the regional court on Monday. The perpetrator said that he put on a mask especially before entering the shop so as not to infect his victim with corona. That shows that he did not want to kill the man.
Camera records attack in kiosk
The public prosecutor’s office accuses the 30-year-old of attempted murder. A surveillance camera recorded the event on June 29th last year: The owner (54) is standing in his kiosk when suddenly a man appears in the shop, pulls out a knife and storms behind the counter. There is a scramble. A kiosk employee wants to fend off the attacker with a folder.
When he backs away briefly, the witness grabs a beer bottle and hurls it at the perpetrator. The glass shatters on the arm of the man, who then fled. The Büdchenchef suffers a cut eight centimeters deep and 20 centimeters long on the back. He is lucky in adversity, organs are not injured. The 54-year-old has to spend one night in the clinic.
Already committed a murder in Albania?
After fleeing abroad, the suspect, who comes from Albania, was arrested in Macedonia in November and transferred to Cologne by the authorities. At the start of the trial, Judge Peter Koerfers reported that the man may have already committed murder in his home country. That suggests an Internet article with his name, which should now be checked.
That article also deals with preparing another crime. If it is actually the defendant, he could have planned another murder five years ago with three accomplices. A pistol with a silencer was found to be a possible tool. There was talk of a blood revenge, possibly an execution was planned.
Defendant: Was cursed in the street
The Büdchen operator also suspects an act of revenge as a motive in the current case. The perpetrator was known to an employee of his, possibly was together. The attacker may have suspected the woman was having an affair with him, which, according to the victim, never happened. In a letter to the court, however, the defendant revealed a completely different version, which Judge Peter Koefers put forward.
Accordingly, the defendant was insulted as a “junkie” at a zebra crossing from a car. “I followed the man on my bike,” said the accused. At some point he lost sight of him, then saw him in the kiosk. He only wanted to hit the legs with the knife, the wound on the back was an accident. The process continues, a verdict is due to be made in mid-June.
