Cologne –
The pictures are shocking. A dog lies in its blood, gasps for air. His master lies hunched over the animal, desperately hugging it. In the background police officers are standing on the stairs. It is the tragic end of an operation in Kalk because of domestic violence in which the dog Nala (2) was shot.

It is 1:13 a.m. on Friday (May 14th) when several calls to the police reported a fight in front of a house on Formesstraße in Kalk, in which men and women attacked each other. The officers rush to meet several people. The police want to get an overview of the unclear situation.

The tumult also woke house resident Marcel B. (32) from his sleep. He looks out the window on the second floor. “I just wanted to see what was going on and then closed the window again.” What he does not suspect: The officers have recognized a laceration on his head – and suspect that he may have been involved in front of the door.
They storm upstairs, ring the doorbell and knock on the front door. Bitch Nala doesn’t like that. She starts barking. The officers are forewarned and shout: “Secure the dog and open the door.”
