Cologne: found five bodies after a house fire

Cologne –

After a fire in a house in Radevormwald near Wuppertal in the Bergisches Land, five bodies were found in the building. The police and public prosecutor’s office in Cologne announced. Initially, no information was disclosed about the victims or the cause of the fire.

A Cologne homicide squad is in action. The identification service has started work. According to a photographer from the dpa, forensic agents and fire investigators were on site. The site of the accident was cordoned off over a large area.

The fire brigade extinguished the fire and moved back after a two-hour fire-fighting operation, said a fire brigade spokesman for the dpa. The scene of the fire had been handed over to the police. An emergency call was received at 5 p.m. that a house was on fire. During the extinguishing work, the emergency services came across the five bodies. At around 7.30 p.m., the fire brigade had withdrawn. There was “nothing more to be done”.

Window panes on the house were shattered, said a photographer on site of the dpa. Strong traces of fire can not be seen on the house. A police spokesman said the house was also accessible. The white, elongated house with a ground floor and a partially developed attic is located on a main road on the edge of Radevormwald in the Herbeck district. It is said to have been inhabited by a family.

How long the forensic investigation will take is unclear, said the police spokesman at 9 p.m. The police and the public prosecutor’s office want to provide more information on the background of the fire on Saturday. (dpa)
