Corona alarm at the Cologne fire brigade! EXPRESS learned from internal circles that two employees of Fire Station 5 in Weidenpesch were infected with the corona virus. According to the city of Cologne, one of the two infected employees comes from the Heinsberg district, the other from the Düren district. According to the current state of knowledge, there is also a connection here to the diseases in the Heinsberg district.

The two colleagues had been in quarantine at home since Tuesday, and the suspicion was confirmed on Saturday evening. Fire station 5 was also involved in handling suspected corona cases.

“The necessary measures were now taken on FW 5 to identify the contact persons of the two parties concerned and to initiate them into the now mandatory 14-day quarantine at home,” says an internal letter from the fire department that EXPRESS is available. The health department will closely monitor the process.
Cologne: 21 fire brigade employees in quarantine
These quarantine measures affect a total of 21 fire station 5 colleagues, which has created a bottleneck in the occupation. The 21 colleagues are not necessarily infected.
On Sunday, the fire brigade is discussing further steps, such as whether fire station 5 must be supported by other fire stations in order to ensure that the vehicles can be manned “as far as possible”.
The city of Cologne announced in the afternoon: “The fire brigade and emergency services of the city of Cologne are ready for action.”
