Due to a fire at Cologne’s Ebertplatz underground station, the local train service was suspended for hours. Several people have already been taken to hospital. Then in the evening all clear.

On Saturday, a fire broke out in the Ebertplatz underground station in central Cologne. The reason for this was a cable fire, a police spokesman said in the evening. Six people suffered a light smoke inhalation. According to firefighters, there was a fire under a subway trolley.

The fire was reported at 2:20 pm. Operations could only resume in the evening: “Because the fire affected the signaling technology,” the police spokesman said.

The surrounding streets also had to be temporarily closed. Citizens were asked to avoid the affected areas. Firefighters were deployed with 205 emergency services and 44 vehicles. Earlier they reported “Express” and “Kölner Stadtanzeiger”.
