Cologne –
A bomb blind man from the Second World War was found during construction work in Cologne’s Lindenthal district on Monday afternoon. According to the city, this is an English five hundredweight bomb with a rear-impact fuse. The bomb has to be defused that night.
The site is near the Elisabeth Hospital, which is to be partially evacuated. A spokeswoman said that around 100 patients would have to be moved to other houses. 50 more could be moved internally to an area on the lower floor that was not affected by the evacuation. Seven patients are intensive care patients. The relocations basically affect all stations in the house. The other patients should, if medically possible, be discharged. Operations have been suspended for the time being. One hope to be able to catch up on this from Tuesday.
A total of 1000 people are affected by the evacuation. The second ring tour is running. Around a third of the transports with patients to be transferred have already been carried out.
A contact point for affected residents is located in the sports hall of GGS Freiligrathstraße, Freiligrathstraße 63.
KVB affected by blocking
Kitschburger Strasse is closed between Dürener Strasse and Friedrich-Schmidt-Strasse; there is the ready-to-use room for rescue vehicles as well as the operations management of the public order office and fire brigade. Cyclists are therefore asked to drive around the area.
The tram line 7 and bus line 136 of the Cologne transport company are also affected by the closure. Line 7 runs through the “Brahmsstraße” stop without changing passengers. Line 136 ends during the evacuation and defusing process at the “Kitschburger Straße” stop.(red)
