Accident on construction site in Cologne: steel plate apparently moved

The fire brigade was alerted by construction workers at 7:26 a.m. They reported that a steel plate had fallen – and a colleague was lying under it.

“When the emergency services arrived, the workers had already freed the man and provided first aid,” says defense spokesman Ulrich Laschet. Accordingly, the workers reanimated their colleague.

Because the victim was lying in a pit one meter deep, a fire brigade arming train with the necessary technical equipment and the rescue workers arrived. Only in this way could the critically injured man be rescued from the depths.

The 51-year-old was immediately taken to the hospital, where the doctors continue to fight for his life.

The police have cordoned off the scene of the accident, the criminal investigation department is on site. The office for occupational safety is also involved. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing. Apparently the steel plate had shifted and then fell on the worker. (iri)
