Cologne coach Timo Schultz expects only a small rotation – if at all – for the important upcoming game against SC Freiburg. He was satisfied with the performance in the last duel against Mainz (1:1), even if the result did not meet the expectations.
“We put in a good performance in Mainz and a good performance in the second half. Therefore, it is likely that we will start again almost immediately,” said the FC coach at a press conference on Thursday.
Will Kainz return to the starting eleven?
Nevertheless, some players offered themselves during the training week, “trained well, pushed themselves and brought the energy to the pitch that we need on Saturday.” Therefore, one or the other could be arranged.
One player that comes to mind is Florian Kainz. The Köln captain only came into the game in the 72nd minute last week, but he kept going in stoppage time and at least got the important point with his penalty goal. “He’s definitely someone who pushes himself. He is very important to the team. Last week the game plan was just different,” Schultz said.
So there are indications that Kainz will be back in the starting eleven compared to the Mainz game. Faride Alidou could then move forward from the left wing, where Steffen Tigges has not liked him recently. But Luca Waldschmidt’s bank is also possible.
