See you next week Meike, George, Jule, Marc and Jan are already standing before the ruins of their existence. A building inspector took a closer look at the hostel and discovered a massive infestation of dry rot. This fungus is one of the most feared building destroyers in Europe, as it can infest load-bearing structural parts and thus cause a risk of collapse.
How should the friends proceed now? It would only be possible to rid the hostel of the fungus with extreme financial effort, but they don’t have the money. It looks like the friends might even have to sell the hostel. George feels guilty because it’s his fault that the previous owner can’t be held liable.

But the dry rot infestation worries the friends about something else: it exists health hazard! According to the Federal Environment Agency, “the metabolic products of the fungus […] associated with health problems such as headaches and nausea.” Dry rot also promotes the growth of mold, which can lead to allergies, malaise and headaches.
This means that not only Meike, George, Jan, Marc and Jule have endangered their health over a long period of time, but also their guests, whose bookings have to be canceled first! How shall we continue? And will the people of Cologne suffer long-term health consequences?
